FX has announced that It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia has been renewed through four more seasons - which would be, season 15, 16, 17, and 18. With the previous series extension into season 14, It's Always Sunny already achieved the milestone of becoming the longest-running live-action scripted comedy series of all time; it also broke that record when season 15 was confirmed in May. Disney (which now owns FX Networks through its merger with Fox) announced the even longer run of Sunny during its highly-anticipated Disney Investors Day 2020, which was held as a virtual event due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Sunny has been such an enduring hit do to the crew's unflinching and at times fearless way to allow immoral characters to have a say about some of the most sensitive topics in society. Some of the most (in)famous episodes of the show have dealt with issues like gun control, drug addiction, racism, and abortion rights; of course, Sunny has stirred just as much fame from doing irreverent stories that build the show's surprisingly rich mythos. 'CharDeeMacDennis' has inspired tabletop game copycats; quotables and memes taken from the show are all over the Internet, and Sunny has even managed to inspire successful lines of merchandise - some of it even directly marketed through episodes.

Always Sunny has also risen to the top of streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, as one of the more popular syndicated series in streaming - while Sunny reruns and marathons still run regularly on cable. Between the widespread syndication, merchandising, and sustained Internet presence, It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is an easy one for Disney to keep in its growing FX on Hulu venture. Keyboard shortcuts you should know.
